Grant from Cranborne Chase National Landscape
The Trustees of Walter Alloments Trust are pleased to announce that they have received a grant from the Cranborne Chase National Landscape (formerly AONB) of nearly £12,000, which represents 90% of our projected Woodland Project.
With part of this grant we intend to re-establish the bridleway that runs through the wood from the cemetery towards Sutton Hill. This will involve clearing fallen tree stumps, low overhanging branches, levelling out and widening the track.
The other element will enable us to remove some non-native (spruce) trees and to clear a ‘glade’ in an area some 40 to 50m square in the wood just west of the allotments.
Our intention is make both the bridleway and woodland more attractive and accessible to the public.
This work will take between now and the end of March 2025 and will require the closure of the bridleway for periods of time.
For all those whose generous donations enabled us to fell the dangerous ash trees in the woodland earlier this year, the residue of those funds will allow us meet the 10% balance that we are required to find.
